PC Motherboards Buying Conditions
- These are motherboards from desktop PCs, laptops, and servers. They are treated as scrap and their functionality is not an issue (the purpose is to extract "rare metals" such as gold and silver).
- Sockets and slots can be seen on the board, but some are not motherboards, so be careful.
- Older motherboards with relatively high levels of rare metals such as gold and silver (old motherboard (above)) have been classified as A-type boards.
- iMac motherboards, including the power supply, are of low quality and therefore classified as appliance/power supply boards.
- Remove the CPU and CPU cooler (heatsink and fan) (they will be evaluated and purchased separately).
- Also remove the heatsink on the chipset.
- Remove the back panel (the panel covering the terminals).
- Remove any large metal plates (be careful of the back of the motherboard).
- Be sure to remove any boards with batteries before bringing them in. We may refuse to purchase them depending on the presence or absence of batteries.
- Because they contain only trace amounts of rare metals, the weight increase due to exposure to water is not negligible. Therefore, if the item gets wet, the price will be reduced, so be sure to "dry it thoroughly" if it gets wet.

FAQ
- 1. What is today’s price for PC Motherboards?
- As of 2026-03-06 08:00, Ohata Shoji Canada Inc, (Delta, BC, Canada) is purchasing PC Motherboards as scrap metal at 3.75 (CAD/lb). We provide competitive scrap metal prices in Delta, Surrey, Richmond, and across the Greater Vancouver area.
- 2. How much is a motherboard worth in scrap?
- It depends, PC Motherboards are treated as scrap and valued based on classification such as older boards with higher rare metal content being handled as A-type boards, while water exposure causes a deduction, so the scrap is priced accordingly after inspection.
- 3. Can you scrap motherboards?
- Yes, PC Motherboards from desktops, laptops, and servers are accepted as scrap regardless of functionality, but CPUs, coolers, heatsinks, back panels, large metal plates, and batteries must be removed, so the scrap is accepted or refused after inspection.
- 4. Are circuit boards worth anything for scrap?
- Yes, PC Motherboards have scrap value because they contain trace amounts of rare metals like gold and silver, but items such as iMac motherboards are classified as low-quality appliance or power supply boards, so the scrap is reclassified during inspection.
- 5. How much gold is in an old motherboard?
- Because PC Motherboards contain only trace amounts of gold and silver, the value depends on board type and condition rather than visible quantity, and older boards are classified as A-type while water exposure reduces price, so the scrap is priced accordingly after inspection.
