CPU Scrap Buying in Canada | Ohata Shoji Canada Inc.

Ohata Shoji Canada Inc. buys computer CPUs for recycling at the Ohata Shoji Canada Recycling Yard in Delta, BC, Canada. We evaluate shipments by CPU type and overall condition, and we can quote based on photos or a sample lot. For the fastest quote, include clear photos and a cut cross-section.
Because CPUs are purchased for metal recycling, working status is not required. Non-working units, older models, and CPUs with bent pins may still be acceptable.
CPU Scrap we buy
we buy computer CPUs (central processing units). we buy them for metal recycling purposes, including recovery of metals such as gold (Au), silver (Ag), and palladium (Pd), so whether they operate is not an issue. As a result, we can consider CPUs that are too old for reuse, do not function, or have bent pins.

CPU scrap
CPUs are small, so for customers located far away, we can also purchase by shipment. Please send your collected CPUs to us by courier.
Items We Cannot Accept
Because the precious metal content is extremely low, the Sun Microsystems CPUs listed below cannot be handled as CPU scrap. Please note that, depending on the contents of your shipment, we may not be able to accept it.

How We Sort Cpus for Pricing
At Ohata Shoji, we sort CPUs into three main categories: Ceramic (Purple), Black, and Green.
Please note that many CPUs share the same product name but come in different packages. For example, Pentium 4 exists as Socket 423, Socket 478, LGA 775, and notebook versions. The Celeron brand also includes a wide range of types due to its long production history.
Ceramic Purple Cpus Part 1

CPU ceramic (purple)
This is a ceramic package with pins arranged in a grid pattern on the underside. It is also called a CPGA (Ceramic Pin Grid Array). Many are purple. Even among CPGAs, some are AMD (K6, K6-2, K6-III, Athlon, Duron, etc.) and some have heat spreaders. These are found in older computers and are rarely seen in modern PCs.

Ceramic Purple Cpus Part 2

CPU ceramic (purple)
This is a ceramic package with pins arranged in a grid pattern on the underside. It is also called a Ceramic Pin Grid Array (CPGA). Among these, AMD products (K6, K6-2, K6-III, Athlon, Duron, etc.) and those with heat spreaders typically have a lower gold yield.

Black Cpus

Black CPU
A plastic package with pins arranged in a grid pattern on the underside. Also known as a PPGA (Plastic Pin Grid Array). This type is black. It is uncommon for PC CPUs other than Pentium, MMX Pentium, and some Celeron models.

Green Cpus Type 1 Without Heat Spreader

Green CPU
A plastic package with pins arranged in a grid pattern on the underside. This category includes green or brown CPUs without a heat spreader. Note that Socket 370 Pentium III and Celeron processors without a heat spreader are called FC-PGA (Flip Chip Pin Grid Array).

This category includes green or brown CPUs with a heat spreader, such as FC-PGA2 (Flip Chip Pin Grid Array 2) Socket 370 Pentium III and Celeron processors with heat spreaders. Around 2012, most desktop PC CPUs fell into this general group.

Intel - Xeon (Socket 604)

AMD - Opteron (Socket F)
These are only some examples of PC CPUs (and some may be for non-PC applications). There are many other types as well.
Heat Spreaders on Cpus
A heat spreader is a metal plate that spreads and dissipates heat generated by the CPU core. It also helps protect the core from physical damage.

Heat spreader (silver surface plate)

Example of a CPU with a heat spreader
Heat spreaders are often made from copper-nickel alloys or aluminum. They do not contain precious metals such as gold or silver. For precious-metal recovery, heat spreaders are treated as non-precious material, and the presence of a heat spreader does not automatically determine the purchase price.
